Main Focus
Biography: Dr. Hongguang Wang leads the research group on Dimensionality Dependent Material Functionality.
He earned a Ph.D. in Materials Physics (summa cum laude) from the Technical University of Darmstadt in 2020 (thesis research at the Max Planck Institute in Stuttgart). Prior to this, he obtained his M.Sc. with Distinction from the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015. Following his Ph.D., he joined the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research as a Research Scientist (promoted to Permanent Staff in 2021 and Research Group Leader in 2024).
Research: Interface of electron microscopy, condensed matter physics, and functional materials (magnetism, energy). Focuses on multimodal electron microscopy/spectroscopy to understand how atoms assemble and interact in quantum materials and devices, especially at interfaces, impacting their functionality.
Expertise: Atomic-resolution STEM/EELS, Quantum matter heterostructures/interfaces, Cryogenic electron microscopy/spectroscopy, Low-dimensional physics/chemistry.
