"Eins zu Eins. Der Talk",  the talk series will be repeated on Bayern 2 summer radio - update of the news from December 2023

On December 10, 2023, Ferenc Krausz from the MPI of Quantum Optics was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in Stockholm. Bavarian Braodcasting was using this special event as an opportunity for a unique format: In "Eins zu Eins. Der Talk", a talk show on Bayern 2, seven Nobel Prize winners from the MPG, alongside Max Planck President Patrick Cramer, shared insights into their work and life.  The talks, was hosted by BR science editor Jeanne Turczynski.

Now the talk series will be broadcast again - as part of Bayern 2 summer radio - from 27.7. to 14.9.2024. All episodes are also available in the ARD Audiothek.  It's a worthwhile listen, as the award-winning Max Planck scientists not only discuss their research but also offer glimpses into their fascinating life stories.

The planned broadcast dates are:

Saturday, July 27, 4:05 p.m.
Patrick Cramer, President of the Max Planck Society
Patrick Cramer was a passionate researcher for over three decades, conducting biochemical studies in various locations such as Göttingen, Munich, and Stanford. Since June, he has assumed the role of President of the Max Planck Society, overseeing 85 research institutes with 24,000 employees from 127 countries.

Saturday, August 3, 4.05 p.m.
Stefan Hell, Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry 2014
Stefan Hell was honoured with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2014 for his groundbreaking research that enhanced the resolution of the light microscope by a factor of ten, allowing unprecedented closeness to cells—the fundamental building blocks of life. When Stefan Hell arrived in Germany from Romania at the age of 15, his scientific career path was not easily foreseeable.

Saturday, August 10, 4.05 p.m.
Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard, winner of the 1995 Nobel Prize in Medicine
In 1995, developmental biologist and geneticist Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her groundbreaking research on the genetic control of embryo development. In her personal life, she is an avid enthusiast of cooking, a dedicated gardener, and has a deep love for music.

Saturday, August 17, 4:05 p.m.
Benjamin List, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry 2021
Apart from his achievements in chemistry, List is a self-professed fan of Eintracht Frankfurt. In 2004, Benjamin List had a profoundly moving personal experience when he and his family survived the devastating tsunami in Khao Lak.

Saturday, August 24, 4:05 p.m.
Svante Pääbo, Nobel Prize winner in Medicine 2022
Swedish researcher Svante Pääbo, renowned for decoding the Neanderthal genome, received the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2022. This achievement comes precisely 40 years after his father, Nobel Prize winner Sune Bergström. However, he played a limited role in Pääbo's life, only visiting him and his mother, the “secret" family, at weekends. Since 1997, Pääbo has served as the Director at the MPI for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig.

Saturday, August 31, 4:05 p.m.
Klaus von Klitzing, Nobel Prize winner in Physics 1985
Klaus von Klitzing, born in present day Poland and raised in Lower Saxony after the war, achieved a remarkable feat by being awarded the singular Nobel Prize in Physics in 1985— a sensation at the time as this only happens extremely rarely. He likes to use his fame as a platform to spark interest in physics among young people.

Saturday, September 7, 4:05 pm
Ferenc Krausz, Nobel Prize winner in Physics 2023
In 2023, Ferenc Krausz, Director at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics - for his pioneering work in “attosecond physics”. In this talk, he explains how his research helps us to better understand diseases and how he discovered physics for himself.

Saturday, September 14, 4:05 pm
Reinhard Genzel, Nobel Prize winner in Physics 2020
Astrophysicist Reinhard Genzel, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Garching near Munich, delves into topics ranging from black holes and light years to spear throws.
